I am pleased to present my report on the activities of the Trust during the past year. The Directors met on a regular monthly basis from October to June for the purpose of “finding our role” within the community.
We understood from the Directors of the Foundation that there may be residents who would wish to donate land rather than cash for the benefit of our community and our organization is structured to accommodate such donors. We have not had many enquiries concerning gifts of land but we have and will endeavour to keep our name before the public so as to attract such gifts.
The Directors of the Central Okanagan Regional District responded to our request that they make a grant to our organization on the same basis as the grant from the City of Kelowna. We received $0,924 from C.O.R.D. to bring our resources to a total of $60,000. We feel that we are in a position to assist residents in carrying out their wishes in donating land to our community.
We had the pleasure of working with the “Save our Pond” Committee from West Kelowna in their efforts to preserve the Rose Valley pond property. We are confident that the $5,000 grant that we made towards the $65,000 acquisition was a significant contribution that has resulted in the preservation of this beautiful sanctuary. The pond is seen as a “key to the very large Regional District park of which it will be a part. We look forward to extending our support and experience to other community committees that are intent upon preserving “natural features” sites.
We received a single donation of $3000 during the year which was partially prompted by our support of the above mentioned pond project. We are encouraged to believe that as we find projects that deserve support, that support can be fostered.
We have made it know to the three local governments in our area that we are prepared to work with them. We enjoyed cooperating with C.O.R.D. in the Rose Valley pond property acquisition. We expect to assist the City in making an inventory of the smaller “natural features” sites as Council deals with the “Strategic Plan”. As these sites become known to the community we expect that we will find a role in seeing that these features are preserved.
In my report last year I referred to a park-like site that is part of a development property. We are still confident that this property will be appropriately preserved because of the initiative of the developer.
The Trust was encouraged to establish an endowment fund with the Foundation when commemorative donations of $810 were received. A donor who heard of our organization at the celebration supper last year donated a policy of insurance on his life that has brought the fund over the committed $5,000.
We are finding as the Foundation did in its early years that ours is a time for planting “seeds” and our future activities will derive from our present initiatives. We encourage anyone to refer “leads” to us. I refer you to our purpose as expressed herein where you will see that we have a broad scope and we are intent upon seeing that sanctuary properties are not lost to our community. I invite you to take copes of our brochure to give to anyone you think might have an interest on our services.
Respectfully,
(Signed)
Collin Elliott,
President
AUDITORS’ REPORT
To the Directors of
Central Okanagan Parks & Wildlife Trust
We have audited the balance sheet of Central Okanagan Parks & Wildlife Trust as at August 31, 1992 and the statements of revenue, expenditures and surplus for the six months then ended. These financial statements are the responsibility of the Trust’s Directors. Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audit.
We conducted our audit in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards. Those standards require that we plan and perform an audit to obtain reasonable assurance whether the financial statements are free of material misstatement. An audit includes examining, on a test basis, evidence supporting the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. An Audit also includes assessing the accounting principles used and significant estimates made by the Trust’s Directors, as well as evaluating the overall financial statement presentation.
In our opinion, these financial statements present fairly in all material respects, the financial position of the Trust as at August. 31, 1991 and the results of its operation for the six months then ended in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
